Back in 2018-2019, I was a budding copywriter looking to land my first few clients... I would stalk job boards like Upwork, Facebook groups, and forums. I would get a project, a project there... All low paying and not consistent. Then Copy Chief was running a live event online in 2021... Where they had different companies looking to hire. I borrowed up the money to attend. “I have to make this work… It could be just what I need to get my break.” During the online event, they announced the companies that were hiring and how to apply. Many of them wanted you to send samples, but one, THE one I really wanted… Put on a competition. They sent everyone interested one of their promos and asked for an email and advertorial. And the best ones would be paid $200 and get an interview. Dang it! With all the great copywriters at the event, I didn’t stand a chance. But I did everything I’ve learned to write the best copy of my life. I wrote the email, loaded the doc, and nervously hit send. After about a week, I received an email back… They marked up my copy with feedback. It said, “Make changes based on the feedback and send it back.” I quickly followed their feedback, made the necessary changes, and sent it back. Couple weeks later, I got another email… “You won. Where can we send payment?” “Omg! I can’t believe it.” I got the job at Banyan Hill (an Agora company)… Started part time, got moved to full time within a month. While I was there… I worked with all of their teams writing short form copy, including emails, space ads, advertorials, YouTube videos, movie trailer style video, customer service scripts, etc. My first marketing push campaign brought in 90K from a small 7,000 person list. Another email relaunch campaign generated 65K after the original launch flopped. After I left, I wrote some emails, a TV commercial, etc. for Newsmax. More recently I’ve worked with a financial YouTuber, a huge financial Substack, and a personal growth coach. Want me to help you next? Email me today!
