So I was thinking, if we take on a copywriting job, is it understood that we have to do it in the context of SEO? If so, do we research the keywords or does the client provides them? Thanks.

Hi!

I've come across articles encouraging the use of keyphrases (how to make money online) instead of keywords (money). The logic is a lot of pro websites are jostling for the top stop for single keyword searches so there's a lot more chance of getting in the first 5 pages if we focus on keyphrases instead. Your thoughts?

Opps, I didn't notice I made a double post last time. biggrin.gif

Anyways, I know we are familiar with commercial domains like .co.uk or .com.ph. They are supposedly TLDs but, actually, they are subdomains. Folks don't recommend having something like mydomain.yourhost.com but I assume a mydomain.co.nr is fine. Fact, I've read somewhere that a kid from UK sold his forum based on a .co.nr for $1,000.

Regarding hosts, there are paid web hosts with free hosting packages. Once we've outgrown our free packages, we could always upgrade to a paid one. No need to move. ByetHost is one.

@LisaW

Hi!

Are customers always right? In most cases, maybe. But the fact that they are hiring copywriters, or in this case a brochure writer/designer, means they know they can't get the job right themselves. As a pro, you are expected to turn in one hellouva product and, in the end, success is measured by the number of new customers that brochure brings in.

So you definitely must have a say on how it turns out. Besides, you'll have your name attached to that product. So how it turns out may be a factor for your future business. biggrin.gif

Hi!

I know it'll only take minimal HTML and CSS skills plus a bunch of free scripts to put up a page similar to all those web copies but is there a CMS specifically made for this kind of sites? One that would take care of almost everything including plug-ins for SEO and such stuff? I guess using something like Joomla or Drupal will be overkill. Thanks. smile.gif

Hi!

It's a coincidence I was reading about sales letters last night. There's this stuff about 4-pages-long letters which would have personally turned me off as I have a very short attention span biggrin.gif but the author said they bring in the cash. Is there a formula somewhere to gauge the right length for a target market? Thanks.

Hey, thanks. biggrin.gif

Everything's clearer now. Don't have much time yet to get deeper into these bot stuff but thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I thought somebody was already visiting and I don't even have a proper header yet. biggrin.gif

@ sal

I've read an eBook last night about off-line marketing in support of online businesses. The guy must know what he's talking about since he's a millionaire and he is using snail mail. But it's not the usual clean sheet, well spaced, well written type of copy he's doing (It's still copywriting right? 'Cause he's selling something) but handwritten and coffee-stained letters (there were pixes attached). Some of them even have erasures. Yet he says he is having phenomenal success with it. Kind of makes me wonder about the formal type of web copy writing too...

Ummnn, what do you think makes web copies follow the same format? It's like everybody is afraid to stand out and get noticed. Copywriters being creative, we'd expect most of them bucking the trend as the web really has no rules, like you said. smile.gif

@ wildhoney

You hit it right on the head. Trust, that's what most surfers look for. As a regular surfer, I don't think that landing page looks out for my welfare. The site can actually sell itself already. Regarding monetization, there are other options and models that can be added to the current paid subscription.

Getting people to pay for a service they can have for free has been giving webmasters huge migraines. biggrin.gif

Hi!

I'm running a test site and there's this link to a free eBook i put in the home page. The links been up for 2 weeks and the site's still in disarray but I've already submitted it to the SEs and directories. Well, when I added a few more free ebook links yesterday I found that the first link has received nearly 400 clicks. Makes me wonder, when bots follow that link, are they counted as clicks by CMSes? Thanks.

Might still work if copywriting.com insists on reciprocal links. Having a lot of outbound links is also not encouraged by some SEO experts as they're only extra baggage and could possibly bring down the PR.

Ok, I'm writing some blog articles on web development and I was careful to limit my intended keywords to 10% of the total. I'm using Joomla and there's a plug-in that lists all keywords in a page. So after I uploaded my article, turned out that almost a fourth of it are keywords. Can bots differentiate between intended and unintentional stuffing? Thanks. smile.gif

Britney Spears? lol

I wouldn't even dare think about stuffing my articles with her name. Might bring bad karma. biggrin.gif Anyways, keywords are supposed to be content relevant. Here's another free keyword tool I recently discovered and is testing right now... http://www.webceo.com/download/

Hi!

What do you think is more effective, long or short copy? Is there a precise limit to the number of words we had to have in our copy? I'm always concerned I'd be rambling, which might turn-off visitors. Thanks.

Hi! I've justed posted a similar inquiry in another section. Browse through magazines and copywriting there is usually in conjunction with pretty pictures, aside maybe for some in the ads sections, but most landing pages selling stuff in the web look the same.

Hi!

I've read that proper grammar is basic in writing. Do this also holds true for copywriting? I mean, articles, well they're articles and obviously needs some grammar but copywriting is more like a one-on-one talk with our target person...

Hi!

Is there a difference between copywriting for print and the web aside from the media? Magazines are attractively done with lots of images (which can really say more than a thousand words) whereas most web pages I've seen related to copywriting are bland. Thanks. smile.gif

Hi!

I'm not really familiar with copywriting for the web but there's seems to be only one lay-out or presentation used. White background, large fonts, red and yellow highlights. Is there a rule somewhere requiring this type of presentation? Thanks.

Keyword stuffing, that's too many keywords in a page for the benefit of the bots. Do you watch keyword density in your writing? What do you think is the optimum range of the number of keywords befor google takes notice?

Hi!

Obviously, there's a lot of paid keyword tools and, by their nature, provide better service too. But if we're not ready to plunk down cold cash for those tools yet, there's several online alternatives:

1. Google ==> https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
2. Yahoo/overture ==> http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/
3. Wordtracker ==> http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/

QUOTE(katharina @ Oct 5 2007, 10:43 AM)
This looks like a decent resource page... thanks, Mark. At first I thought
it was just a site to sell the guy's book, but on further look, there are more
resouces.

That's how things usually work. biggrin.gif And Wall's site is a great example of how SEO works. He's filling his site with fresh keyword-focused content daily so people will find and link to it and get introduced to his eBook, which I believe will be be worth every penny since most people find information through SEs.

Hi!

This is where my online endeavors started... http://www.online-writing-jobs.com/

Offers there run the gamut from high-paying jobs to non-paying ones. There's no bidding, you email the contact person and be careful for scams. Got a few jobs there but decided to get some sites up and write for them instead after I saw how keywords and SEO works. And I thought at first it was pretty degrading to be given a list of words to "jumpstart" my writing. biggrin.gif

Hi!

Sorry to say I've read the exact opposite in webmastering forums. I usually get advice to submit sites to relevant SEs and directories, even DMOZ. Not only that, they say to build a site map and submit it to google and yahoo. The idea seems to be we help the bots every we can to get to our sites and index the pages.

@ Miguel

Thank you for the offer. I'm sure to take advantage of it as soon as I get my sites reasonably presentable. I'm always on the look-out for reciprocal links with quality sites and this forum will be there on top. How'd you managed to snag copywriting.com (Domain)? It must've cost a little fortune...
