I'm not a Vista user, but a friend of mine is using it right now. He said that in Vista has a program like Microsoft Visual Basic. I don’t if this is really true. I never used one. I guess that I would upgrade sometimes on the near future. Usually new software like this one has their bugs on it.

I went searching on my computer to see if I could figure out what that program might be that is like Visual Basic. Can't see anything resembling it, so I'm not sure what your friend was referring too. No bugs here though!

QUOTE(Reid @ Jan 2 2008, 03:36 PM)
I write a lot of short stories but in the last few months I have finally pulled together the framework for a full-length novel that I'm about a quarter into writing. I love the room for expression and time that long writing allows for and I always end up having grand visions for books (although many of them are too impossible to actually create).

I feel like the novel is the ultimate form of writing for the majority of those you practice it and I will probably always strive to create full-length fiction whether it is published or not.

What a marvelous concept to write for the sake of writing vs. the concern of publication. I woke up today thinking I wanted to start chasing my dreams again instead of simply chasing the dollars of web content writing. Your post confirms the feelings in my heart.

QUOTE(Verb @ Dec 17 2007, 11:12 AM)
I almost always see this left out of conversations regarding SEO copywriting.
It is not just the demographics of the target market. You have to look at the
competition very seriously and gague their success in the major search engines.
What is their PR? All the numbers are important.

If this is not part of your research for writing SEO copy - you are missing the
boat on this one. Glancing at their SE position is not nearly enough. You have
to study as if the competition IS your client - it is THEM you have
to beat.

I have always taken into considertion the full spectrum of the competition
before taking on a new client, especially if it is a field I am not familiar with.

What the competition is doing determines keyword and key phrase density.
One blanket percentage range of numbers simply will not suffice.
Keyword density if different for every single web site according to their
market and the competition therein.

Small business owners very often do not have a clue about how to study their
own competitive market. You have to take them by the hand and lead them
down the garden path to success. Otherwise you are leading them to the
outhouse and a dead end road.

Honestly, I have never given a second thought to what the competition is doing. I just go ahead and write for the client per their specs and that's it. I'm going to be writing web content for myself in the near future, however, and you can bet I'll be taking your advice. Very wise approach!

I'm on Blogger too, but most of the serious bloggers I know eventually end up on WordPress. I know they have a free version, as well as a paid version, and I think most people are opting to pay for the service because it is pretty limitless in how you can monetize/build it.

I've been researching this a bit for my own purposes, and the idea that appeals to me most is article placement. I haven't done this for my own site, but I've written articles for other marketers who are doing this. Here's a link to an article discussing the concept: http://www.graphic-design.com/Web/increase_rank.html

I still use Internet Explorer, but that's not out of any loyalty. I just haven't gotten around to downloading/trying Firefox. I saw a job application the other day where the employer required their at-home staff to use Firefox while working. A sign of things to come?

I'm not a guru user, but several of the people over on wahm.com are. From their conversations, it appears that the only ones who get work are the paying members. The ones who have paid, give mixed reviews, however. Several have dropped their memberships.

I had enough work to make ends meet after about two months of juggling the smaller jobs. I write web content (articles) as my main source of income now. I still blog and write for the print market, but these activities take up a small portion of my day.

To add some more depth into this topic, I did find a website like Associated Content that I just joined. It's called http://www.triond.com/, and seems to be a website where you write what you want, and they have advertisers put it up somewhere, where you'll get money per view.

I've yet to write anything for them, but it seems to be interesting enough, that can pay off in the long run if you keep making articles for them.

Someone on another forum was talking about their experience with triond, and they were happy with the site. They said the money they generated there from page views was far superior to what they were getting at Associated Content.

I wanted to add another thought to this post. There are many publications in the print market that only pay in copies or pay an incredibly low amount for material. No one castigates them as taking advantage of writers, and no one tries to make writers feel bad for submitting work to them. It has long been accepted that this is how writers gain experience and clips. It makes me wonder why the veteran writers have such a problem with the newer writers taking low paying jobs on the net.

Actually I haven't updated my resume since I started freelancing a while ago but now it's nice to think that I have a few jobs under my belt that I could add.

Unfortunately, I'm still very much a newbie but everyone has to start from somewhere. Was it hard to start getting clients with a small resume jnj or did you find that your work samples were more important?

The samples seemed to make the most difference. I had put a few articles out on Associated Content, so it was easy for potential clients to scroll through a few and get a good idea of my writing style. If you have a particular niche you want to write for, I'd suggest writing a few articles on the topic and having them ready to send to potential clients.

Do you ever feel overwhelmed by all of the opportunities in web writing? I have one steady job for article writing where there is enough work to keep me busy all the time, yet there are so many other things I enjoy doing. I want to spend more time blogging, continue working for a few other clients, design a website, and submit material to some online magazines. Sometimes it seems overwhelming, but I guess a person just has to take it a day at a time.

Today is Caucus Day in Iowa, and the early primaries will be held soon, so we'll see who leads the pack in both parties. As of now, Obama appeals to me the most. I think he would do the best job of connecting with the rest of the world.

Do you work best in the early morning, in the evening, or doesn't it matter when you work? I get the most done early in the morning because no one else is up yet. Once the family is awake and moving around, it becomes more of a challenge to be productive.

I make my best money writing articles. This isn't because of the price per individual articles, but because I have clients who give me steady work. There are some who disagree, but I'd rather have regular, reliable work that pays the bills month after month, even if the price per article is moderate.

I Googled "music blogs" and got a ton of hits, including some directories (human edited) of music blogs. It's probably best if you do your own search and sort through, as you know best where your interests lie. I have seen postings for blogging jobs in the music category. Quite often these are for specific instruments (guitar seems to be the most popular).

When it comes to promoting your writing skills, do you prefer a blog or a website. I want potential clients to be able to access a variety of writing samples, my resume, etc., so I'm thinking a website would be more user friendly in my case.

I love reading blogs, but I spend way too much time reading posts when I should be working. I read a blog, end up clicking a link in a post to someone else's blog, and time gets away from me. I think I'm a blog addict smile.gif Anyone else have this problem?

I haven't done anything with Smorty, but I've been hearing more about them on some of the blog forums. Blog post approvals are supposed to be done within five days, and yes, they do have weekly paydays.

I have seen ebooks that were less than 10 pages and some that have been 50 or more. I've also seen a wide range of fonts and colors. There doesn't seem to be a standard format, which I suppose is natural considering that people are self-publishing and can be creative. I think when I write my ebooks I'm going to be buying some ebook generating software to make things easier on myself.

I have found a good deal of work by hanging out with other writers on forums. Wahm.com (wahms who write folder), Digital Point (copywriting folder) and the Freelance Writing Jobs blog have all been good sources of job leads. Some people post their own ads at Warrior Forum, sitepoint, Craig's List, etc. Make sure you have an up-to-date resume and a few writing samples ready so you'll be prepared when a potential client asks to see them.

There are certainly some helpful resources provided. I am intrigued by the sales letter writing software. Currently, I don't write sales letters, but when I start writing ebooks, I'm going to want to write some for myself.

I also blog at Blogger and have a lot of work to do in terms of building traffic to my site. I have found some good resources dealing with the topic but haven't had the time to read through them. Here is one article that has some good tips for building traffic to a Blogger site: http://blogbusinessworld.blogspot.com/2005...on-blogger.html

I'm not an expert on meta tags by any means, but I'd have to say the description tag is the most important overall. As far as I know, this tag still has full support from the crawlers.

I get a lot more visits to my blog when I make posts in a forum related to the topic and add a signature link. I also visit many blogs and websites I wouldn't know about otherwise because people post their links. I think it's a great way to build traffic.
