Hi everyone,

I'm just curious. How much should I charge for a salesletter? I recently received an offer to write a 4000-word salesletter for around $30. Isn't that way too low, even for a writer with less experience? How should I base the rate on this one?

Thanks

Hi Everyone,

Just thought I'd ask a question.

What do you think about using hyphens to break lengthy sentences? What about semi-colons? Also, is it appropriate to use abbreviations without providing the expanded version?

My policy is to use everything and anything to make copy interesting, so, I'd love to know your views on these.

Thanks

Compensation based on Increased Conversions

Hello All,

I'm new here, and would like to ask for your
input, if I may?

I'm working on a deal with a big Internet marketer.
I'll INTEND to beat his controls.

He has all the bells & whistles to track conversions,
of course -- and therefore determine how much
better my new version sales letter converts OVER
his control.

However, he has not figured out the best way to
figure my compensation.

Questions:
1. What % of revenues generated, as a result
of my new sales letter, should I be paid?

Ex: If the control converts 5% of visitors, and my
new sales letter converts 10%, that's a 5% increase.

But, I don't know how to figure how much money
the additional 5% increase should pay me.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom, from
experience, to share?

Thanks much,

Carolyn

Partnering Strategies in Copywriting

Hello all,

Let me tell you about myself. I am the copywriter for a horticultural tool and supply firm. It's a national catalog business primarily, but we also multi-channel. We're offering an array of value-added services to our customers such as: Account Managers for personal interaction, the option to join a "Club" for additional discounts on products and shipping, and a retail distributor program for resellers.

I am in the process of writing a "Welcome to the Club" letter to customers that have already joined our discount group. These memberships are $49.95, or FREE with a $500+ purchase. This entitles them to take 5% off of this year's purchases, 10% off all shipping costs, and gives them a personal account rep to facilitate their orders.

I want to welcome them, reinforce their new benefits, show their savings-to-date, and sell the "partners in success" theme. We need to change their mindset from the view that we are simply a supplier and make it more of a "we're in this together" idea. I also want to encourage them to keep buying.

I'd love to hear some brainstorming on how you'd handle this - what's your headline?

Thanks,
Opal

Inline links for lots of link juice!

I've found, through many years of copyrighting, that the best type of link that you can receieve, is an inline link. Forget links at the top, footer links, sidebar links, banner links, and any other types of links. Google really does seem to love the inline links!

For anybody a little unsure of what I mean, by inline links I mean links such as this link to Google. If there's content either side of the link then Google really adds a lot of weight to it. I surmise that this is due to inline links being the links that aren't really bought and sold, and also people tend to link to other websites when the other website is relevant to the post at hand.

Copywriter wanted

I built an informational website to help promote my wife’s interest in Yoga: www.classical-yoga.com

In it, she was offering a PDF version of a book that she has written on Yoga and which has been traditionally printed, bound and published.

The book runs to 182 A5 pages and comes complete with glossary, index and illustrations.

She’s asking $25 for the PDF version, and sales have been non-existent.

I sought advice from the members of the Warrior Forum, and as a result of some 44 replies I have decided to build a one page website dedicated to the sale of the book as a whole, or as a series of some 10 or so e-books. The site will be optimised in the main, at least initially, with articles to the directories.

The original site will either be improved and left as a informational site, or abandoned.

I will be interested to receive expressions of interest for the copywriting or copywriting/design of the one page website (which I will build using WordPress) and later for the editing of a considerable amount of work that my wife has done.

I would welcome enquiries from anyone interested in some or all of this work.

Thanks

Alex

At what age did you begin writing?

By this I mean properly. Not at school or anything like that. Rather, when did you begin ardently writing about whatever took your fancy at the time -- and really making it part of your life. I personally feel it's important to begin young, and that allows you to develop your skills whilst your mind is still maturing.

What does everybody else think? And also, at what age did you begin?

Your opinions need please

I’m about to start several campaigns designed to sell some e-books and to begin to build a list.

I intend to use a photograph of myself as part of the branding process, but I have a problem with which I hope members will help me by offering their honest no-holds-barred opinions.

Until recently, the only reasonably recent photo I had of myself is 5 yrs old and in sepia tone.

I now have a more recent one in colour, but of course, the years have taken their toll—as they do.

My problem is I don’t know which one I should use. Is colour important? Is brutal honesty important? The old photo has been hanging around in quite a few forums for quite a few years…do I lose anything by dropping it now? The old photo is looking to the left and is best suited on the right hand side of the page; probably not the best side for a photo to be. Do you see any reasons why one is better than the other?

Which do I think is the best? The one that gives the best result—but I can hardly split test it; or can I?

One thing I do know—branding is important. So I’d really appreciate your opinions.

The two photos can be seen on http://www.alexdwilson.com (but I’ll have to take it down in a few days time).

Thanks for your help,

Press Release vs. Article

I admit that I have only written two press releases in my life - for my own websites. I do not think I did it right. From what I understand, a press release is suppose to be an announcement about something new about a business with information about that event. Can someone help me understand how writing a press release and an article differ? Do I have it right?

Perusing business and freelance boards, I am rather shocked at how low writers will go to get keyword article jobs.
