As a copywriter, do you ever get attacked for doing what you do? People saying youre doing something wrong, too commercial or something like that?

Greetings Emma:
You need to be a bit more specific with your question. Anyway, i don't think a copywriter can be too "commercial". I mean, copywriting is advertising. Now, if by commercial you mean "hype", then how far you push the hype button depends on the audience your copy targets. That said, too much hype generally doesn't persuade or convince people to take a desired action. Testimonials, benefits, guarantees, and price do. As a copywriter, do you ever get attacked for doing what you do? People saying youre doing something wrong, too commercial or something like that? -------------------- |

Hi Emma,
I think the reason why you're a copywriter has a great deal to do with how people view you. If you're in it to make money by selling no matter what the product, no matter what the promise, yes. You'll quickly become quite unpopular. But if you're into copywriting to help make someone's life better in some way (that's my commitment, my copywriting mission!) then I think people will respect you for that. At least that's how I've experienced it. For me, it's real easy to get enthusiastic about an honest product that truly helps someone solve a problem or feel happier. For example, I began selling by helping harp builders sell their harps. Because I deeply love the peace and magic that playing a harp produces, it's easy for me to sell the wonder of the instrument. If I can help someone else find the same peace and magic that I did, then wow! That's what it's all about - for me. Something about owning and playing a harp just sort of seeps deep into your soul and lives there, making you a better person. Magical. Dot -------------------- Selling the Magic of a Dream
