My name is Mari and I live in South Wales. I work in web design/development, copy writing and content management.

Hi all,

I've been getting going as a copywriter for the last couple of years now. Based in the UK.

Have been working in marketing/pr for a design consultancy, and have managed to acquire copywriting jobs through them, to the point where i am now a copywriter!

I've just set up a new blog called the copyvirgin. It's a blog with a difference, as it aims to show the steps it takes to making it as a copywriter.

Check it out.

Hope to have lots of great discussion with you all!

I'm incredibly opinionated when it comes to the written word, so apologies in advance if i manage to p**s any of you off!

All the best

The Copyvirgin

Hi all-
I’m a first time caller, long time listener . . . oops – wrong medium! But seriously, folks, I’m a re-single, middle-fifties-ish girl who really, really, really wants to write. And I’ve got the My Documents file to prove it. A certifiable word nerd, I’ve written essays, articles, short stories and novels. (Okay, a couple of poems, but they are seriously bad.) I was asked to write a brochure for a resort in South Carolina and it was well-received. I P.O.D’d two books for and about Baby Boomers – a demographic that I’ve closely (obsessively?) studied for a lifetime. (I believe that all started back in the day, when I craved the “cool” gene that had sadly been left out of my personal DNA. Watching and learning may not have made me one iota cooler, but it did hone my powers of observation quite nicely.) cool.gif

Apparently, the many rejections I’ve received to date from the all-powerful, great and mighty **PUBLISHING WORLD** have yet to deter me, as proven by my tentative, tippy-toed entry into yet another realm of the written word – COPYWRITING.

I have a part-time day job at a medical center as a secretary. My current non-writing interests center around my granddaughter, who, at 2 years old, shows early traits of marketing talent – if you observe the ways she successfully manipulates her grandmother. I also love to travel, read, and listen to classic rock music.

I’m glad to have found this forum and website. I hope to learn so much here that companies throw their money at me and beg for my expertise!

Here goes something.

I have been busy reading your forum post by post.

I am a 45 year old with 18 yrs in manufacturing management and 7 years as a railroad conductor. Currently looking out of nessesity for a change.

My apptitude internet job test said "COPY WRITING". So hear I am. I have to say it looks like something I will love. Its something I have been doing my whole life without knowing it.

Most of my training is out dated (I know how to use WP keystroke commands). But I am pretty good at picking that type of stuff up on my own. I know this is going to start sounding like, please don't hire me. My grammar is terrible and spelling is about the same (why is he doing this? Its like watching a train wreck.).

I think I have a way with words. I can jack into people's wants and desires. Probably resulting from a car salesman father. "What does it take to get you into this car today?". I have been sold to my entire life. It usually goes something like this Dad: "come over and help me build a porch today. Its easy peasy. You can wear your dress clothes. You barely even need to get out of your car. What do I need to do to get your help today?"

I have a son (9) who was a salesman right out of the shute. Cole: Can I have a hot wheel. No. Can I have a hot wheel. No. Can I have a sixpack of hot wheels. No. Ok two is fine"

I have a 7 yr old Autistic daughter. I would love to learn to use my skills to help her cause. It would be a wonderful thing to work and help at the same time.

And I have a wonderful wife who keeps me from being a drunk vagrant lying in a cardboard box soggy from the rain and smelling like the wrong part of the medical profession. (he's doing it again)

This may turn out like a bad American Idol episode (here we go). I hope not. Planning to drop my hat in the ring with the tagline contest.

thanks Bryan
