This is probably blazingly obvious to everyone but me ... but how do you create a popular blog, if you're not famous, not selling anything, or don't write about popular topics -- but you do really enjoying sharing your thoughts with the world?

I'm really enjoying writing my blog here on copywriting.com and while my fellow bloggers with the same or less postings are recording thousands of page views, I'm limping along with a few hundred views. I've read their stuff and it's really good, but I think that there's something in this blogging world I'm missing do to my naivete. Is there some social posting button I'm supposed to hit? Some secret SEO tactic I'm supposed to use? Or some prayer I'm supposed to invoke that I missed in parochial school?

Looking forward to the advice of some kind soul who knows how these things work.

Cheers,

Sal

I've read this article before and it seems helpful. The guy who wrote it has one of the fastest growing personal finance blogs, and his writing style is very easy to read. Anyhow, here is the link:

This looks like a great blog and I will be reading the rest of it. I have a blog but it isn't
one that benefits me in any monetary way. I've not checked into the way people make
ad revenue from blogs and I know I need to know that.

Is there a place where I can learn the basics from step one, like where to open a blog,
and *then* how to actually start income flowing?

Sal,

I also think this post has some good advice:

Pearsonified's How Can 10 Simple Articles Change Your Life

The first thing is to just keep adding useful content to your site. There are other things you can do, like making sure you are using targeted keyword phrases in your titles and first paragraphs (if you use a keyword phrase in your title, for instance, 'copywriting basics' then you should make sure that appears in your first paragraph also). But the key is quality content. After that, it helps to cultivate fans, like you're doing here in this forum.

Hi to All.

Give your blog here a little time. They rotate with others on
the home page. You also need to give google a chance to index
your blog and entries. Keep blogging and posting. Be sure to
add links to your sites or to places you need additional traffic.
Of course, links should have relevance. wink.gif

It will all come out in the wash. Be specific with your topics and
stay on subject. After saying that I must admit I don't always
stay on topic OR subject with any of my blogging efforts.
It happens. blink.gif

Blogs should be personal to a certain extent so do try to keep
your writing personal as much as possible. Too "polished" looks
like an AD of some kind to a lot of readers/surfers and they blip
out before getting past a few paragraphs. ohmy.gif

Don't be afraid to write your own experiences, whether they be
about surfing around or your own copywriting anecdotes. Give
sound advise when you feel you have something to offer. smile.gif

My blog here only has six entries as I try not to blog about "nothing."
Always keep "relevance" in mind and you will be on the right
track. biggrin.gif

When the "wash" comes out, you will be surprised how
wonderful it smells. Like success. laugh.gif

Hope this helps.

Blessings.

Yes, I'm pretty much doing it this way. All my blog posts have been spontaneous outbursts of what was going on that day. I don't have a theme, really, and no idea what I'll write about the next day. While I do keyword research on an article and make sure I SEO it before sending it to either my client or to an article directory (if its for one of my own website promotions), I'm reluctant to do it with the blog--even though this will trigger some traffic. The way I'm approaching the blog is to do writing practice and I try to tie it in with copywriting because that is my interest.

Cheers,

Sal

These are some fabulous tips you have here, Verb... and thank you
for posting them! I just may have to check into starting a *real* blog.
The thing I have is something I had to open to be able to read a
few blogs of friends in that community. Once in a while I toss a few
words there so that I stay current. smile.gif

already got one reader. rolleyes.gif It will be fun.

Hi Sal

There's this popular blog called The Manolo's Shoe Blog (shoeblogs.com). Two things I can say about it are it's quirky and written in the third person (obviously, I'm not a fan) but Darren Rowse of problogger is a reader so this blog must be really hitting the right notes.

You can see that it's mostly about the bloggers passionate and humorous take on fashion and whatever it is that catches his fancy (I understand they are now a team). So maybe the the lesson here is to write passionately about something we love and readers will come. Soon we'll be popular in our particular niche. smile.gif

I have always wondered about blogging and what it really was. I have seen a few and even read a few. I have thought about starting one but never knew where to go and then once I have one how to add the AD's to it to make money from it. I am going to check out all those links and see if I can finally get something going. wink.gif

It's quite easy to get Wordpress set-up and working perfectly, Trixxie. All you really need is a place to put it - so a web hosting account of some kind from somewhere (There must be millions out there!). You can acquire the advertisements from such places as Google's AdSense. Every aspect of blogging is rather simple to set-up and will have you posting in no time at all!

Sal, you're doing great where you are now. The best SEO stuff ever is quality content and if you deliver it consistently, both Google and the readers will love you. Sooner or later you'll find your niche,or they'll find you. Besides, Copywriting.com is already doing the technical SEO stuff for bloggers here.
