"He scratched his ear, the infallible resource to
which embarrassed people have recourse."

--- Lord Byron

Having only made a few posts at the blog here it
is becoming crystal clear that the blog content from
everyone else is well planned and well thought out
articles.

I don't usually do that. Blogging is always off the
top of my head. I go back later and tweak, if
absolutely necessary but holy crap on a stick,
you people are so serious about blogging!

This is NOT a complaint. The articles are great,
full of good informative content, showing off the
skills of professional copywriting and copywriters
who are members of this forum.

Why am I starting to feel like a doofuss?

Hi! smile.gif

In my opinion, blogging is just a great outlet for expression.
You can blog about anything you want... some of the best
blog posts I've read are not articles but rants that let me
peek into someone's mind (or heart).

And for the record... I've read and liked every single one
of your blog posts here at Copywriting.com

All the best!

Don't be embarassesed. I don't know much about these topics either. but I came here to learn. Ask all the questions you can think of and don't stop asking until you understand the answers. That's what I'm doing. I ng.believe it will eventually payoff. If nothing else knowledge is knowledge and I love to learn new things. So instead of beong embarassed, use this forum to learn all you can about copywriting and bloggi

I looked at your blog and it didn't look unprofessional to me! You had very informative articles and I like the informal style you write in. I think I saw somewhere on this site that good copywriting is like you are sitting down talking to a person face to face, and that's how your blog read! Keep those posts coming! smile.gif

If you want "embarrassed"...

I started a blog when I had some spare time, but it was never my intent to post personal stuff on it. I just loaded it up with "article-like" thing after "article-like" thing - and its pretty much nothing but a dumping ground for articles and "article-like things" I've written. I, personally, think the stuff is well written enough, but the thing just sits there - like a storage unit for stuff. Its pretty robot-like and definitely lacks personality, and someone even commented to me that it "isn't a blog".

I realized I don't think I have the personality for a blog because I'm not the type to share the personal stuff, I tend to think the small, impersonal, stuff isn't interesting to anyone, and I'm kind of more the type to write a "how-to-change-the-world" (according to me) handbook.

So, when it comes to blogs I'm not embarrassed about that dumping ground I once started, but I've reached a dead-end.

I think that is *so* important. I hope that as I get more into copywriting, my
clients will feel the same way. I'm so turned off by copy that all sounds the same
and it's very obvious where it's going. I think you're right, and people want to
feel as if you're talking to THEM and not a group of thousands of nondescript
faces. I don't like feeling like "one of the gang" so I like copy to talk to ME. smile.gif

Interesting point. So how do you get that to happen? How do you write copy
that makes the reader feel like you are talking just to them, and not the gang?

Cheers,

Sal

You think about what everyone has in common. Now, doesn't that sound like
a contradiction? smile.gif It sounds that way, but it's not. People have a few things
in common no matter what their background is. Grab something emotional
and go with that... something everyone can relate to, but still personal.

Trying to think of an example. Okay, something I'd toss and not listen to
would be "Want to make make an extra thousand dollars next month?" because...
well frankly, that's what everyone says and there's nothing to make me believe
your offer is different.

Something that would grab me: "Need some extra cash to feed that chocolate
obsession? Would an extra thousand help?"

Well, something like that... come up with things that touch emotions. I'm not
gullible enough to think that particular copywriter knew about my chocolate
habit wink.gif but it would have made me take notice and feel more "picked out"
than "Yo, hey you, want some extra dough?"

If I bungled that explanation too badly, let me know and I'll give it another
shot. laugh.gif

Also, you need to be careful about your word choice. Avoid words that people would have to look up in the dictionary. Ideally, your copy should read like you're sitting down next to a person and talking to them. Professional, intelligent, yet relatable at the same time.

Very true. It's quite different from creative and tech writing in many ways, but that's the
biggest. You can't sit there and agonize over which fanciest word will sound best because
using "ten dollar words" isn't a good idea.

I love the people who can blog every day like it is a religion. I forget for weeks then pick up my pieces and move on, only to forget again in a few days. I am a lagging blogger.

I love blogs that give me a glimpse into the writer's life. I do appreciate articles and links incorporated into a blog, as I'm all for learning something new, but I can find my own articles and links with a Google search if that's all I'm interested in. For me, a blog is all about getting to spend some time with someone and looking forward to repeating that experience again and again.

I try to write articles but not in an extremely professional manner. For me, the best blogs to read are ones that have the author firmly implanted within the writing itself. If posting takes itself far too seriously it becomes boring and less fun. Blogging seems like an opportunity for freely expressed writing or journalism and I like the authors who do that the most and take the medium to where it ought to be rather than using it as a diary or a sales pitch.

I don't think there is anything to be embarrassed about in regards to "unprofessional" writing.

I read your post months ago but have not replied - I felt like I was
wasting space here to a certain extent.

Did you happen to look at other posts at that blog? I saw a bu--load of
ummm...exactly the same thing with links to crapola.
I have no clue why... ACHTUNG!, actually YES! I DO KNOW!

I love shoes! I have no less than... OH - maybe we should not go there.
But people click on the link. I hate to say it but people can be so stupid.
Me included! Yikes!

Geeze a loo Batman! This could be tonights wine consumption talking or walking...
