I'm an italian copywriter. I bought Bly's book on Amazon and I loved it. Here in Italy we don't have as much book on copywriting as in USA, so I choose The copywriter's handbook hoping it could be helpfull to me. And it really is. It's clear, direct, punctual, full of examples. I would buy it again and again...

Very interested to read your list. I would like to add the following (not all of them books on copywriting in particular but on advertising in general).

1. The Craft of Copywriting by Alastair Crompton
2. Behind the Scenes in Advertising (Mark 111) by Jeremy Bullmore
3. Ogilvy on Advertising ('nuff said!)
4. Cutting Edge Print by Jim Aitchison
5. Cutting Edge Radio " " "
6. Cutting Edge TV " " "
7. A Technique for Producing Ideas by J.W. Young
8. The Fundamentals of Creative Advertising by K. Burtenshaw, Nick Mahon and Caroline Barfoot
9. Guerilla Advertising by Gavin Lucas and Michael Dorrian
10. Advertising, Advertising by W. Fletcher

I would also suggest that every copywriter reads Edward de Bono's 'The Use of Lateral Thinking'.

Hey Eileen. “Stole” is such a harsh word… In the copywriting world you should probably refer to it as “swiping a good line” ;)

All the best!

Miguel! I forgot to mention, Dude, you stole my line...

Except, of course, you replaced "crapola" with guacamole... lol

Blessings.

More reading to do, but since reading is a joy this will not be a problem. Not as much reading as you might think though. I have #2, #4, #7, #10 on your list already. But having the list will get me more of what I might be missing.

Thanks again,

Eileen

Two of my favorites are:

How to Write a Good Advertisement by Victor O. Schwab

Breakthrough Advertising by Eugene Schwartz

While a little dated, the principles they discuss are still valid and they offer a real education in how to write copy.
