An introduction to hypnotic copywriting
July 24th, 2007 · 10 Comments · Tags: Copywriting · Internet Marketing · Persuasion & InfluenceWhenever I hear the word “hypnosis” a clear visual image is projected in my mind’s eye. A smooth-sounding and gentle fellow, maybe holding a shiny pocket watch, whispering to me: “Your eyelids are starting to feel really heavy, you are comfortable and relaxed and you are longing to fall into a deep and completely restoring sleep.”
And that’s probably the same image (or pretty darn close) to the one playing on your mind’s eye too. After all, we all know that the concept behind hypnosis is to get you into a relaxed state of mind that allows the hypnotist to embed commands and suggestions directly into your subconscious mind.
But few have heard about a little-known type of hypnosis that can be achieved with the written word alone. Enter the profitable world of “hypnotic copywriting”.
The goal of hypnotic copywriting is not that different from that of hypnosis. The goal consists of creating marketing pieces so powerful that they command your readers’ undivided attention, captivating her to the point that it makes her lose track of the time spent reading your words – much like it happens when you’re watching a spell-binding movie or reading a dazzling novel.
Hypnotic copywriters are able to pull this off with a series of techniques that allow them to carefully and strategically weave words in such a way that it hooks and mesmerizes the reader. Knowing that while the reader is in this state of mind (called a trance), she is much more open and receptive to suggestions and commands embedded in the copy.
Many new copywriters tend to dismiss this as hocus-pocus, but I can assure you that it is not. Hypnotic copywriting draws from a wide range of disciplines including hypnosis, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), sales psychology, persuasion, etc.
During the next couple of weeks, I’ll be sharing some of the most powerful hypnotic copywriting techniques that I know. These devastatingly simple techniques can produce dramatic results in your online marketing efforts, so don’t miss them!
If you have any particular questions about hypnotic copywriting that you’d like me to answer or if there is a particular strategy you’d like me to discuss, please let me know by leaving a comment on this post.

I truly believe in hypnotic copywriting. I’m currently reading a book called Hypnotic Writing from Joe Vitale. It’s a great book and easy to understand.
Peace.

Excellent article! I saved it to my copywriting file, along with all the Gary Halpert, John Carlton & Dan Lok folders.

Joe Vitale’s Hypnotic Writing is a great book - a little too self promoting in my opinion, but there are definitely some great points that can help any writer connect with their audience.

yeah, I believe HC is possible because the written word is still the most powerful medium there is especially if used properly… nice article. I’ll be looking forward for more.

A book I like to read is “Persuasion Engineering” by Richard Bandler (one of the co-creators of NLP). Now the writing style is unconventional, but by reading it you’ll understand just why hypnotic copywriting is so powerful.

wonderful articles, thank you very much! but the hidden commands article is not here anymore. is this a technical problem or conscious copywriting “never-get-enought” strategy? I hope I’ll have the opportunity to read it here. Thank you.

Hypnotic writing is a very true phenomenon, though you see it slightly exaggerated at times, it is very true and applicable. Another tool that marketers use a lot though, and I personally feel is very useful and perhaps more effective in business dealings are to put these very hypnotic writing into words with conversational hypnosis.
